Personal Injury Doctor in Kansas City (Lien / Attorney / MedPay / PIP) at Core Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO

Personal Injury Doctor in Kansas City for Accident and Injury Care

Hurt in a car accident, slip and fall, or other injury and not sure where to start? A personal injury doctor at Core Medical Center evaluates your injuries, builds a physician-directed treatment plan, and produces the documentation your claim needs, all under one roof in Blue Springs. We treat on a lien, work with your attorney, and bill MedPay and PIP when those benefits apply.

In short: a personal injury doctor diagnoses your accident injuries, treats them, and writes the records and prognosis your case depends on, so you can focus on recovery instead of paperwork.

What a Personal Injury Doctor Does

  • Examines and diagnoses your accident injuries with a physician-directed plan
  • Documents the injury, treatment, and prognosis your claim and attorney need
  • Coordinates chiropractic care, physical therapy, and pain management in one place
  • Works directly with your personal injury attorney and adjuster
  • Bills MedPay and PIP coverage, or treats on a lien when appropriate

Who We Help

We see patients across the Kansas City metro injured in situations that fall outside the workplace: car and motor vehicle accidents with neck, back and soft-tissue injuries, slip, trip and fall injuries on someone else’s property, pedestrian and cyclist injuries, and patients referred by a personal injury attorney who need coordinated medical care.

If your injury happened on the job instead, our workers’ compensation team handles that path, and federal employees are served by our OWCP doctor service.

What Happens After a Car Accident, Step by Step

Here is the path from the crash scene to your last visit.

  1. At the scene. Call the police and get a report number, photograph the vehicles, and exchange insurance information. Accept an ambulance if anything feels wrong.
  2. Emergency care, if it is warranted. A hospital rules out fracture and bleeding. It does not rehabilitate a strained neck or back, which is the work that follows.
  3. Call and book, within days rather than weeks. One call to (816) 229-1941 starts it, same-week appointments are typically available, and no referral is needed. Whiplash, strain and concussion symptoms are commonly delayed 24 to 72 hours, and an early exam dates your injuries to the crash.
  4. Your first exam. History, hands-on examination, neurological screening, and imaging when findings call for it. Say everything that hurts: symptoms left out of the first visit are hard to add later.
  5. Your treatment plan. Chiropractic care, physical therapy and pain management are scheduled around the diagnosis, not the other way round.
  6. Billing is arranged before treatment runs. Lien or letter of protection, MedPay, PIP, or health insurance. Our front desk confirms which applies to you.
  7. Treatment, re-examination and discharge. You are reassessed as you progress and the plan changes with your findings. Your file closes with the treatment history and a prognosis your attorney or adjuster can work from.

The 3 Phases of Soft-Tissue Healing

Crash injuries heal in three overlapping phases, and treatment should change as you move through them. Our article on the 3 phases of soft-tissue healing after a car accident covers them in full.

  • Phase 1, inflammation. The first days after impact. Care settles pain and swelling and protects the injured tissue while keeping it gently mobile.
  • Phase 2, repair. New tissue is laid down over the following weeks. Manual therapy, chiropractic care and graded exercise steer it to form along normal lines of motion instead of as stiff scar.
  • Phase 3, remodeling and strength. The longest phase. Strengthening, endurance and a staged return to work keep the injury from becoming a recurring problem.

Treating a phase-3 injury with phase-1 care, or pushing phase-1 tissue as though it were ready for the gym, is how a straightforward injury turns into chronic pain.

Injuries That Hide After a Crash

The injuries that cause the most trouble are usually the ones that felt like nothing at the scene, because adrenaline masks pain and inflammation builds over a day or two. Watch for these in the week after a crash:

  • Whiplash and neck strain, felt as stiffness, headache at the base of the skull, or pain when you check a blind spot
  • Concussion, which can present as fogginess, light sensitivity or disrupted sleep rather than a headache
  • Disc injury, signalled by shooting pain, numbness or tingling down an arm or leg
  • Low back and hip strain that appears only after the first full day back at work
  • Shoulder injury from the seat-belt or from bracing against the wheel

Reaching straight for anti-inflammatories is not always the right call, either. Our guide to taking ibuprofen after a car accident explains what timing does to healing.

Lien, Letter of Protection, MedPay and PIP in Plain English

These four terms cover almost every way accident care gets paid for here, and patients rarely arrive knowing which one is theirs.

  • Lien. A claim against your future settlement. You are treated now and the bill is paid out of the case when it resolves, so nothing comes out of your pocket up front.
  • Letter of protection. The written promise, signed by your attorney, that the bill will be paid from the settlement. It is the document that makes lien-based treatment possible.
  • MedPay. Medical payments coverage, an optional add-on to your own auto policy. It pays accident-related medical bills up to its limit no matter who caused the crash, and it does not depend on having an attorney.
  • PIP. Personal injury protection. As general information rather than legal advice, Kansas law requires every auto policy issued in the state to include PIP benefits, under K.S.A. 40-3107, so PIP commonly covers the first round of bills for a Kansas-side crash. Missouri instead requires liability coverage, under RSMo 303.025, so a Missouri crash is generally handled through the at-fault driver’s insurance, with MedPay on your own policy as a possible second source.

When we treat on a lien, your attorney and our office put the agreement in writing first, and we document as we go, so your legal team always has the diagnosis, objective findings, treatment records and prognosis. No attorney yet? You can still be seen. Bring your declarations page and your crash report and our front desk will confirm which coverage applies before treatment starts. For questions about fault, settlement value or filing deadlines, your attorney is the right person to ask.

Do I Need a Referral?

No. Call our office directly and book an evaluation yourself, with no referral from a primary care physician, an adjuster or an attorney. If a personal injury attorney sent you, bring their contact details and we coordinate with their office from the first visit. If you have no attorney, that is equally fine.

Injuries and Conditions We Treat

Accident injuries we commonly evaluate include whiplash, neck and back strain, herniated disc, headaches and concussion, along with shoulder and knee injuries. Your provider connects the diagnosis to chiropractic care, physical therapy and, where appropriate, injection or pain management through our auto accident clinic.

Physician-Directed, Attorney-Friendly Care

Your care is led by clinicians who treat injury cases every day. Dr. Aston Goldsworthy, DC, MSN, FNP-BC, our founder, directs injury and occupational care, and Dr. Paul Doskey, MD, a board-certified anesthesiologist, leads pain management and injection procedures for patients whose injuries need more than conservative treatment. When your case calls for an objective evaluation, our IME and independent medical exam service provides impairment-rating support. We keep your file organized so your legal team is never chasing records.

I got in an accident at the end of May in Kansas and chose Core Medical Center for treatment because it was closest to my place of work. While the treatment was great and the staff incredibly friendly, I couldn’t be more disappointed with their organization. I quit treatment about 3 weeks ago because my schedule no longer allows and asked them to go ahead and send my bills to my car insurance as my primary because Kansas is a no fault state. I had given them the info for Shelter as my primary insurance MULTIPLE times and told them DO NOT bill my health insurance, it was an accident so they will not pay my bills. They told me multiple times that Shelter was being billed as my primary for the no fault coverage. Finally called up today because I got a letter that shelter hasn’t received a single bill and Core Med Center didn’t even have Shelter’s info entered anywhere in my file. They only had my health insurance in the system, and every single bill had gone to my parents house to be paid. Also had a phone number I’ve never heard in my life listed as my number, so not even an appropriate way to contact me. Absolutely ridiculous. Connie was very helpful in resolving the issue, but it should have never happened in the first place because I asked about the billing almost every time I went in for therapy.

Common questions

Personal Injury Doctor FAQ

What if I do not have health insurance after an accident?

You still have options. When another party's negligence caused your injury, care can often proceed on a lien or letter of protection through your attorney, and MedPay or PIP coverage on the auto policy may apply regardless of health insurance. Bring your accident details and our front desk will walk through what fits your situation before any treatment starts.

What does a personal injury doctor do?

A personal injury doctor evaluates and treats injuries from a car accident, slip and fall, or other non-work incident, then documents the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis your case needs. At Core Medical Center this care is physician-directed and coordinated with our chiropractic, physical therapy, and pain management teams in Blue Springs, serving the Greater Kansas City metro.

Can I be seen on a lien or with no money up front?

Yes. We work directly with personal injury attorneys and can treat on a letter of protection or lien in many cases, which means care now and billing handled through your settlement. We also bill MedPay and PIP coverage when it applies. Bring your accident details and attorney information and our front desk will confirm options for your situation.

How soon after an accident should I be seen?

As soon as possible. Whiplash, soft tissue strain, and concussion symptoms can be delayed and worsen if untreated, and an early, documented exam protects both your recovery and your claim. Same-week appointments are typically available.

Do I need a referral to see a personal injury doctor?

No. You can call us directly and book an evaluation yourself, with no referral from a primary care physician, an attorney, or an insurance adjuster. Many of our patients are sent by a personal injury attorney and many simply call after a crash, and both paths get the same exam, the same treatment plan, and the same documentation.

Do you have Spanish-speaking staff?

Yes. Core Medical Center is a bilingual clinic and Spanish-speaking help is available for your visit, so you can describe your injuries and understand your treatment plan in the language you are most comfortable with.
