About Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injuries

When you’ve suffered any type of trauma to your brain, medical professionals will evaluate your condition to determine the severity of your injury. If your TBI is considered mild, it will be referred to as a “concussion.” Even though it’s a mild TBI, a concussion has the potential for serious consequences like inhibiting your physical functions. A traumatic brain injury is any violent blow or jolt to the head or body that causes damage to the brain. This damage can include an object going through brain tissue or a severe blow to the head. Major traumatic brain injuries can cause bruising, torn tissues, bleeding, and other severe forms of damage to the brain. Unlike a concussion, which will often heal with minimal residual effects, a severe TBI can cause long-term complications or even death.

Federal Workers Compensation FAQs

Can I be treated at either location for my OWCP injury?
Yes. Core Medical Center offers the same comprehensive federal injury care at both of our locations.
Will you help with my CA-1 or CA-2 form?
Absolutely. Our intake process includes assistance with CA forms and submission guidance to ensure your claim starts on the right track.
What if I was injured months ago but haven’t filed yet?
You may still be eligible. Our staff will review your case, help establish medical causation, and assist with claim initiation or appeal.
Is this covered under insurance?
Yes, in most cases. Here's how insurance coverage works for the different types of cases we handle: Federal Workers' Compensation (OWCP): When your OWCP case is approved, services like CBT are fully covered under your federal claim. There is no out-of-pocket cost to you, and we handle all required documentation and approvals. Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) & Personal Injury Cases: These are typically handled on a medical lien basis, meaning we provide care now and get paid later through your attorney, auto insurance, Personal Injury Protection (PIP), or MedPay—depending on what applies to your case. Commercial Insurance & Medicare: We are in-network with most carriers, and approximately 99% of our services are covered by both commercial plans and Medicare. Your actual cost depends on your individual plan benefits—like co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance. We’ll verify your benefits upfront and explain any costs before treatment. State Workers' Compensation (Missouri, Kansas, etc.): If you’ve been injured on the job, your care is typically covered by your employer’s workers’ compensation insurance carrier. Once your claim is approved, we coordinate with the carrier to authorize and provide the treatment you need. Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (WA DOL): For injured workers in Washington, services are covered by WA DOL through the state’s workers’ compensation system and associated insurance carriers. We are registered providers and follow the state’s treatment protocols.
If your insurance is medicare and commercial, we are in-network. They will cover it at whatever rate they are contracted and if its MVA is typically on lien or med pay or pip or both, work comp is covered by the carrier.
